2435 international hotels to land in China, Hilton brands top the list

According to Lodging Econometrics’s Global Construction Pipeline Trend Report, the top countries by project-count are the United States with 5,011 hotels and 608,837 guestrooms and China with 2,435 hotels and 538,836 guestrooms. The U.S. accounts for 40 percent of the hotels in the global pipeline while China accounts for 20 percent.

The latest China Construction Pipeline report shows that the country has 2,435 hotels with 538,836 guestrooms in the works, up 5 percent year-over-year.

There are 1,732 hotels with 364,809 guestrooms currently under construction, up 4 percent by hotels year-over-year. Hotels that are scheduled to start construction in the next 12 months are at 308 hotels with 69,972 guestrooms, up by one project year-over-year, while hotels in the early planning stages are at 395 hotels with 104,055 guestrooms are up by 9 percent.

The top hotel companies in China’s construction pipeline are Hilton with 292 hotels and 72,382 guestrooms, Marriott International with 272 hotels and 76,595 guestrooms, and InterContinental Hotels Group with 203 hotels and 54,778 guestrooms.

The largest brand in the pipeline for each of the these companies are Hilton’s Hampton Inn & Suites with 110 hotels and 16,724 guestrooms, Marriott’s full-service hotel with 59 hotels and 18,429 guestrooms, and IHG’s Holiday Inn Express with 61 hotels and 13,575 guestrooms.

Cities in China with the largest pipelines are Shanghai with 117 hotels and 24,009 guestrooms, Guangzhou with 107 hotels and 25,684 guestrooms, Chengdu with 93 hotels and 21,139 guestrooms, Suzhou with 82 hotels and 16,550 guestrooms and Beijing with 77 hotels and 13,140 guestrooms.
